THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT “EBOLA”

Please read this
US STATE DEPARTMENT: EBOLA ALERT!!! In order to help our Embassy Community better understand some key points about Ebola virus we consulted with our medical specialists at the U S State Department & assembled this list below, worded in plain language for easy understanding. • The suspected reservoirs for Ebola are fruit bats. • Transmission to humans is thought to originate from infected bats or primates that have become infected by bats. Undercooked infected bat and primate (bush) meat transmits the virus to humans. • Human to human transmission is only achieved by physical contact with a person who is acutely and gravely ill from Ebola virus or their body fluids. • Transmission among humans is almost exclusively among caregiver family members or health care workers tending to the very ill. • The virus is easily killed by contact with soap, bleach, sunlight, or drying. A washing machine will kill the virus in clothing saturated with infected body fluids. • A person can incubate the virus without symptoms for 2-21 days, the average being 5-8 days before becoming ill. THEY ARE NOT CONTAGIOUS until they are acutely ill. • Only when ill does the viral load express itself first in the blood and other bodily fluids (e.g vomit, feaces, urine, breast milk, semen and sweat). • If you are walking around you are not infectious to others. • There r documented cases from Kikwit, DRC of an Ebola outbreak in a village that had the custom of children never touching an ill adult.Children living for days in one room huts with parents who died from Ebola did not become infected. • You cant contract Ebola by handling money or swimming in a pool. •There’s no medical reason to stop flights, close borders, restrict travel or close embassies, businesses or schools. • Always practice good hand washing techniques, you will not contract Ebola if you do not touch a dying person. Don’t Panic, Educate Yourslef, Educate Others. Pls Share.

EBOLA NOW HAS A CURE

The article below was written by Dr. Sanjay Gupta for CNN and they are saying an experimental drug called ZMapp likely saved the lives of 2 US missionary doctors who contracted the disease while working in Liberia…see report below from CNN..

Three vials containing an experimental drug stored at subzero temperatures were flown into Liberia last week in a last-ditch effort to save two American missionary workers who had contracted Ebola, according to a source familiar with details of the treatment.
The drug appears to have worked, sources say. Dr. Kent Brantly’s and Nancy Writebol’s conditions significantly improved after receiving the medication, sources say. Brantly was able to walk into Emory University Hospital in Atlanta after being evacuated to the United States last week, and Writebol is expected to arrive in Atlanta on Tuesday.
On July 22, Brantly woke up feeling feverish. Fearing the worst, Brantly immediately isolated himself. Writebol’s symptoms started three days later. A rapid field blood test confirmed the infection in both of them after they had become ill with fever, vomiting and diarrhea.

It’s believed both Brantly and Writebol, who worked with the aid organization Samaritan’s Purse, contracted Ebola from another health care worker at their hospital in Liberia, although the official Centers for Disease Control and Prevention case investigation has yet to be released.

A representative from the National Institutes of Health contacted Samaritan’s Purse in Liberia and offered the experimental treatment, known as ZMapp, for the two patients, according to the source.

The drug was developed by the biotech firm Mapp Biopharmaceutical Inc., which is based in San Diego. The patients were told that this treatment had never been tried before in a human being but had shown promise in small experiments with monkeys.

According to company documents, four monkeys infected with Ebola survived after being given the therapy within 24 hours after infection. Two of four other monkeys that started therapy within 48 hours after infection also survived. One monkey that was not treated died within five days of exposure to the virus.

Brantly and Writebol were aware of the risk of taking a new, little understood treatment and gave informed consent, according to two sources familiar with the care of the missionary workers. In the monkeys, the experimental serum had been given within 48 hours of infection. Brantly didn’t receive it until he’d been sick for nine days.

The medicine is a three-mouse monoclonal antibody, meaning that mice were exposed to fragments of the Ebola virus and then the antibodies generated within the mice’s blood were harvested to create the medicine. It works by preventing the virus from entering and infecting new cells.

The Ebola virus causes viral hemorrhagic fever, which refers to a group of viruses that affect multiple organ systems in the body and are often accompanied by bleeding.

Early symptoms include sudden onset of fever, weakness, muscle pain, headaches and a sore throat. They later progress to vomiting, diarrhea, impaired kidney and liver function — and sometimes internal and external bleeding.

The ZMapp vials reached the hospital in Liberia where Brantly and Writebol were being treated Thursday morning. Doctors were instructed to allow the serum to thaw naturally without any additional heat. It was expected that it would be eight to 10 hours before the medicine could be given, according to a source familiar with the process.

Brantly asked that Writebol be given the first dose because he was younger and he thought he had a better chance of fighting it, and she agreed. However, as the first vial was still thawing, Brantly’s condition took a sudden turn for the worse.

Brantly began to deteriorate and developed labored breathing. He told his doctors he thought he was dying, according to a source with firsthand knowledge of the situation.

Knowing his dose was still frozen, Brantly asked if he could have Writebol’s now-thawed medication. It was brought to his room and administered through an IV. Within an hour of receiving the medication, Brantly’s condition dramatically improved. He began breathing easier; the rash over his trunk faded away. One of his doctors described the events as “miraculous.”

By the next morning, Brantly was able to take a shower on his own before getting on a specially designed Gulfstream air ambulance jet to be evacuated to the United States.

Writebol also received a vial of the medication. Her response was not as remarkable, according to sources familiar with the treatment. However, doctors on Sunday administered Writebol a second dose of the medication, which resulted in significant improvement.

She was stable enough to be evacuated back to the United States and is expected to arrive before noon Tuesday.

The process by which the medication was made available to Brantly and Writebol is highly unusual. ZMapp has not been approved for human use, and has not even gone through the clinical trial process, which is standard to prove the safety and efficacy of a medication. It may have been given under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s “compassionate use” regulation, which allows access to investigational drugs outside clinical trials.

BOKO HARAM PLAN REVEALED

The SSS said the Boko Haram sect is planning to bomb Abuja with petrol tankers within the next few days. The Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mike Omeri, made this known at a briefing in Abuja alongside the Deputy Director of the DSS, Marilyn Ogar
“The Nigerian Security services had received intelligence report to the effect that insurgents intends seizing petrol tankers and plant improvised devices in the tankers and drive them to crowded places in Abuja.

“Against this backdrop, we hereby call on the Petrol Tankers Association to be on the red alert and advise their members to report any attempt or seizure of their vehicles to security agencies.

“In this wise, Nigerians are also advised to report any broken down tanker in any part of the territory to security agencies. Similarly, we are using this opportunity to appeal to the public to be on the alert particularly when they see any tanker driving dangerously.” He said

REASONS WHY THE JAPANESE LIVE SO LONG

The world’s oldest known man, Alexander Imich, born in 1903, died on Sunday in New York.

The torch will most likely be passed to 111-year-old Sakari Momori, who comes from a country full of elderly people: Japan. The Guinness Book of World Records is investigating.

That’s not really surprising. You’ve probably heard a similar story before: The Japanese have the highest life expectancy of any major country. Women on average live to 87 and men to 80 (compared to 81 years for American women and 76 for American men). The Japanese can live 75 of those years disability free and fully healthy, according to the World Health Organization.

More from GlobalPost: This map shows which disease is most likely to kill you depending on where you live

For decades in the US, the health mania over Japanese cuisine has taken on a life of its own, with books on the timeless “Okinawa diet” and a host of others purporting to have cracked the mystical, enlightened ways of the East.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but anybody who pushes the image of 90-year-old Zen monks taking refuge in a remote mountain monastery, feasting their life away on sushi and vegetables, is full of it.

So is anybody who proclaims the innate superiority of Japan’s food supply to the “Western diet” (How many wonderful, green healthful diets can you choose from in all of North America and Europe?).

And contemporary Japan can be a stressful place. Its hyper-urban people work long hours, at 1,745 hours per worker in 2012, suffer through a long and deadening commute, and can easily fret when a subway hold-up makes them just minutes late for meetings with their bosses.

The pressure to perform is high, and failure is frowned upon.

So how have the Japanese managed to live so long?

Cuisine could indeed play a role — although even that is up for debate.

A combination of small portions, lower-calorie foods like fish and vegetables, and beautiful eye-appealing dishes all contribute to a longer and healthier lifespan, argues Naomi Moriyama in her co-authored book “Japanese Women Don’t Get Old or Fat: Secrets of My Mother’s Tokyo Kitchen.”

“The Japanese diet is the iPod of food,” she jokes. “It concentrates the magnificent energy of food into a compact and pleasurable size.”

And then, of course, there’s the fabled Okinawa diet — coming from an island that’s markedly different, in both food and customs, from mainland Japan. Some physicians point to a trend of longevity thanks to a host of meals that carry a low long-term risk of stomach cancer or arteriosclerosis, like tofu, konbu seaweed, squid and octopus.

But food can’t possibly be the only answer, especially with the downsides to certain Japanese dishes that carry high salt content or that are undercooked. Sushi can put diners at risk of H. Pylori infections, an ailment that can lead to stomach cancer.

Others hint at the relative happiness and stress-free lives of Japan’s elderly, who can live to old age without hefty health bills thanks to the help of children. Senior citizens can enjoy their final years without withering away in hospitals that pour resources into extending their lives more than ensuring quality of life.

The tradition of an elderly couple leaning on their daughter-in-law, though, isn’t as big as it used to be, thanks to the entrance of more women in the workforce.

But Japan still trumps when it comes to old age.

Rihanna didn’t get mad, she got even after the TLC singers complained about her nearly nude appearance at the CFDAs.

The 26-year-old Diamonds singer responded by posting a topless photo of the R&B duo and using it as her Twitter background on Thursday.

The photo shows Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins, 44, and Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas, 43, smiling at the camera while barely covering their breasts with their hands.

Rihanna twisted the knife in further by writing: ‘When there’s no changing the fact that I’m me, and they’re well…they’re them,’ alongside a photo of her making a funny face and sticking her tongue out.

It goes to show that Rihanna wasn’t going to take their diss lying down after they spoke against her use of sex and her body to sell music on Australia’s No. 1 morning show.

Appearing on Channel 7’s Sunrise on Friday morning ahead of their sold out Sydney gig, T-Boz and Chilli had a clear message for the Rude Boy singer.

‘Every time I see you you don’t have to be naked,’ T-Boz said.

The duo, who are currently touring Australia said using sex and being naked is the easy way to get to the top in the music industry.

‘It’s easy to sell sex,’ the duo, who have five Grammy and MTV awards under their belts, said.

‘It’s hard for us to say anything because any time we do, they say, ‘Oh TLC must be jealous’, but I call a spade a spade,’ T-Boz added.

‘We became the biggest girl selling group of all time with our clothes on and that says a lot,’ Chilli chimed in.

‘We could go around too with booby cakes [breasts] out all day long,’ she said referring to Rihanna’s choice of see-through dress for Monday’s Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards.

She left virtual nothing to the imagination showing off her bare breasts and just a nude thong to hide the rest of her modesty in the risqué gown created by designer Adam Selman.

Despite officially calling it quits in 2002 following her tragic death, T-Boz and Chilli Thomas reformed for a series of concerts in 2009 which marked the 20th anniversary of their hit single Waterfalls.

Now they are doing a national tour of Australia and are not modest about their successes to date.

‘TLC is my favourite girl group, even though I’m in the group. I love our group. I love what we stand for,’ Chilli said giving a dig to current girl groups.

WITCH DOCTOR BOASTS OF BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR RONALDO’S INJURIES

“I Attacked Ronaldo Spiritually To Stop Him From Playing Against Ghana” – Kwaku Bonsam, Ghanaian Witch Doctor
I Used 4 Dogs To Prepare The Charm I Used In Injuring Him, Nobody Can Cure Ronaldo
Firebrand Ghanaian spiritualist Kwaku Bonsam says he is responsible for Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury. This news comes barely days leading up to the World Cup in Brazil. Bonsam says his aim is to prevent the Real Madrid striker from playing against Ghana in the group stages, and possibly beyond that.
News broke last week of Ronaldo’s ailment, triggering a hushed celebration from Ghanaian soccer fans who secretly dread the national team playing the Portuguese team with Ronaldo in striking position.
A statement issued by the Portuguese FA on Wednesday, confirmed that the 2008 FIFA Player of The Year was diagnosed with tendonitis in his left kneecap area, and is also nursing a muscle problem in his left thigh. Tendonitis is an inflammation, irritation and swelling of tendons, and even though this is quite a common condition with athletes, Kwaku Bonsam claims he is responsible for that condition, and that no doctor can cure it until Ghana is clear from Ronaldo’s reach.
“I said it four months ago, that I will work on Cristiano Ronaldo seriously and rule him out of the World Cup, or at least prevent him from playing against Ghana, and the best thing I can do is to keep him out through injury.” he said on the Ghana-based Angel FM in Kumasi.
“I am very serious about it. Last week, I went around looking for four dogs and I got them to be used in manufacturing a special spirit called ‘Kahwiri Kapam’”he added.
“This injury can never be cured by any medic, they can never see what is causing the injury, because it is spiritual. Today, it is his knee, tomorrow it is his thigh, next day, and it is something else.”
Kwaku Bonsam paid a visit to SaharaTV some months ago while visiting New York. In that interview he claimed that some Pastors paid him visits at his shrine to seek spiritual help.
Ronaldo missed the 0-0 game with Greece over the weekend, and is also likely to miss Portugal’s World Cup warm-up matches against Mexico, and Ireland. It is however not clear if he will recuperate early on time for the World Cup.
Ghana plays Portugal on June 26 in Brasilia, in their final Group G match. Group G comprises Germany, USA, Portugal and Ghana.

Second world war sex slavery papers passed to Japanese prime minister

Five victims of Japan’s wartime sex slavery and their supporters have submitted hundreds of official documents to the government, demanding that the prime minister, Shinzo Abe, face up to the atrocity and formally apologise.

Support groups backing the women, who are from Indonesia, the Philippines and South Korea, said the documents collected from around the world included clear evidence of coercion.

Japan apologised in 1993 over the “comfort women” system of forced prostitution before and during the second world war, but insists there is no proof the women were systematically coerced by the government, citing the lack of official Japanese documents stating so.

Abe recently said Japan would not change its apology, but it is re-examining the study that was the basis of the apology. Neighbouring countries have criticised Japan over its review, particularly a re-examination of interviews with former Korean victims.

“We have evidence. I’m living proof,” said Estelita Dy, 84, from the Philippines, who was kidnapped by Japanese soldiers in 1943 when she was 12. “I feel outraged every time I hear people say we were not forced into this. That’s why I have to keep telling my story.”

She said she was happy to see the new documents and the group’s demand for Abe being submitted to the government.

The civil groups criticised the government for looking the other way since the 1993 apology and trying to discredit studies conducted under past administrations more willing to atone for Japan’s wartime actions. The victims and their supporters called on Abe to officially acknowledge that the government and military had established and run the “comfort women” brothel system, and that the women had been forced into the system against their will.

They also demanded that the Abe government disclose all official records related to the issue, conduct additional investigation and promote education, while punishing politicians and other public figures for denying the atrocity.

Yoshiaki Yoshimi, a Chuo University historian, said the 529 pieces of documents he and fellow historians had compiled since 1993 contained proof the Japanese military and the government had been directly involved in setting up and recruiting girls and women from around Asia, often by deception and kidnapping.

Nearly 190 of the documents came from Japan’s defence ministry archives, more than 40 from foreign militaries and governments, 60 from Taiwan, he said. Court documents from Japan, as well as investigation results by the government of Netherlands, a former coloniser of Indonesia, are also included.

He said the women had clearly been forcibly taken away and placed under slave-like conditions at the “comfort stations”.

THINGS TO KNOW ON HOW TO LIVE AS A WEALTHY PERSON

If you are serious about being wealthy, one of life’s great pleasures is developing a sense of class that is far beyond that of the common man. This means enjoying activities like polo, croquet and collecting ascots. While nearly everyone has donned a cowboy hat and straddled a petting zoo pony or mounted a dude ranch work horse better named Gluestick than Silver, the truly wealthy do not consider these representative of a true equine aficionado. In fact, the rich consider anyone that wears blue jeans and a straw hat more likely to be proficient with a pitchfork and a wheelbarrow than a saddle and a bridle. Instead, one simply must own a proper collection of riding boots, flared riding pants and a helmet reminiscent of Marvin the Martian, if Marvin owned a Bentley.

While a trusted steed may elicit images of John Wayne, the Lone Ranger or Clint Eastwood, rich people know that only and elite few can exhibit the grace and elegance of an equestrian rider. The majesty of rider taming a well-papered beast and becoming one as they gracefully vault over obstacles in a race against time is akin to watching a an Italian mechanic tune a classic Ferrari…while it is moving. Equestrian may at first blush appear a frivolous pastime but one must move beyond the literal interpretation and realize it is in fact a metaphor for success as many wealthy patrons believe they have pulled themselves up by the bootstraps overcoming humble beginnings as trust fund children who did not see a penny until they turned 21 or until they narrowly graduated from an Ivy League college at a campus littered with buildings named after their forefathers.

As always, the challenge is not how to mock the frivolities of the wealthy but to embrace them as a means to gallop into the inner circle. Naturally, as with other stuff rich people love, there is a vocabulary to learn. Understanding that the obstacles are called verticals or fences and that the horse and rider are called jumpers is table stakes, so the ability to discuss the finer points of the sport becomes critical. I recommend intimating a knowledge of dressage or perhaps the cultural importance of the fox hunt as light-hearted means to inspire your host to wax poetic on their thoughts about warmblood and thoroughbred breeding or their leaning towards Badminton versus Burghley as the pinnacle of success. Some may suggest that sincerity and genuine interest are keys to winning friends and gaining influence. Others believe that rich people are much more inclined to appreciate a sycophant that feigns interest rather than engaging in meaningful dialogue. Perhaps it is why horses make such great team mates.

SOUTH AFRICA CELEBRATES RECONCILATION DAY AFTER MABIBA’S FUNERAL

Pretoria – On a public holiday dedicated to reconciliation, South Africans on Monday started coming to terms with the loss of Nelson Mandela, a day after he was buried at the end of a life struggle for freedom and equality.

A 9m, bronze statue of the democracy icon will be unveiled on the lawns of the Union Buildings, where Mandela was inaugurated as South Africa’s first democratically elected president in 1994.

Mandela was not just a statesman and president, but a moral guide who led the country away from internecine racial conflict.

While the man lovingly called the father of the nation had been critically ill for months, the announcement of his death on 5 December nevertheless sent a shockwave through a country struggling to carry forward his vision of a harmonious multi-racial democracy of shared prosperity.

During the funeral, President Jacob Zuma urged the country to carry on Mandela’s legacy.

“One thing we can assure you of today, Tata (father), as you take your final steps, is that South Africa will continue to rise… because we dare not fail you,” he said.

Ten days of official mourning came to an end on Sunday with a state burial in Mandela’s rural boyhood village of Qunu, marked by tearful eulogies and strident vows to pursue his ideals.

“Madiba’s values and ideals must guide us as a nation as we contemplate a South Africa without his towering presence,” a government statement said after the funeral.

“We will continue to draw lessons from Madiba’s very rich and extraordinary life and continue with his legacy.”

Symbolic of that legacy of reconciliation, Zuma will unwrap a giant Mandela statue in an event also marking the centenary of the Union Buildings, where generations of apartheid heads of state signed many of the racial laws Mandela spent most of his life fighting against.

The Day of Reconciliation was first marked in 1995, the year after South Africa’s first-ever democratic elections which symbolically ended decades of racial oppression.

Before that, 16 December had been commemorated by Afrikaners, the custodians of apartheid, for over 150 years.

But 16 December is also the anniversary of the founding of Umkhonto we Sizwe.

“Former President Mandela is associated with the promotion of reconciliation which is why the day was chosen for the unveiling (of the statue)” said the government.

The event had been planned before Mandela’s death.

It is at the Union Buildings that Mandela lay in state for three days last week, as up to 100 000 people stood in hours-long queues to file past his open casket and pay their last respects.

“The unveiling (of the statue)… signals the start of celebrating and living the late Madiba’s legacy and the end of the mourning period,” said the government.

The national flag was raised on Monday from its half-mast position, and was flying as normal 11 days after Mandela died at the age of 95.

SOUTH AFRICANS PRAY FOR TATA MADIBA

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — In death, Nelson Mandela unified South Africans of all races and backgrounds Sunday on a day of prayer for the global statesman — from a vaulted cathedral with hymns and incense to a rural, hilltop church with goat-skin drums and barefoot dancing.

Mandela was remembered in old bedrocks of resistance to white domination as well as former bastions of loyalty to apartheid.

“May his long walk to freedom be enjoyed and realized in our time by all of us,” worshippers said in a prayer at the majestic St. George’s Cathedral in Cape Town, where the first white settlers arrived centuries ago aboard European ships.

South Africa’s reflection on Mandela’s astonishing life was a prelude to a massive memorial in a Johannesburg stadium Tuesday that will draw world leaders and luminaries. They will gather to mourn, but also to salute the achievements of the prisoner who became president and an emblem of humanity’s best instincts.

The extended farewell — a bittersweet mix of grief and celebration — ends Dec. 15, when Mandela is to be buried in his rural hometown of Qunu in Eastern Cape province.

The anti-apartheid campaigner wanted to die in those modest, traditional surroundings; instead, he died Thursday at age 95 in his home in an exclusive Johannesburg area. He was surrounded by family after months of a debilitating illness that required the constant care of a team of doctors.

Family friend Bantu Holomisa told The Associated Press that Mandela wasn’t on life support in his final hours. He appeared to be sleeping calmly but it was obvious that he was finally succumbing, added Holomisa, who said he saw Mandela about two hours before his death.

“I’ve seen people who are on their last hours and I could sense that he is now giving up,” said Holomisa, who is the leader of the United Democratic Movement in parliament.

“You could see it is not Madiba anymore,” Holomisa added, using Mandela’s clan name.

The government and Mandela’s family have revealed few details about Mandela’s death. Ahmed Kathrada, who was sentenced to life in prison with Mandela in 1964, said he was informed shortly before Mandela’s death that his old friend had little time left.

Kathrada said Graca Machel, Mandela’s wife, conveyed the message to him through another person that Mandela “will be leaving us that night” and “the doctors have said, ‘Anytime.'”

The death still came as a shock to many South Africans, so accustomed to the enduring presence of the monumental fighter, even when he retired from public life years ago and became increasingly frail.

“He was more than just an individual soul. He was the exposition of the African spirit of generosity,” said the Rev. Michael Weeder, dean of St. George’s Cathedral.

But he cautioned that the country still has so much to do.

“The strength of the new South Africa will be measured in the distance that the poor and the marginalized travel from the periphery to the center of our society,” Weeder said.

In Johannesburg, hundreds swayed and sang at the Regina Mundi Church that was near the epicenter of the Soweto township uprising against white rule in 1976 and served as a refuge from security forces who fired tear gas around the building and whose bullets have pockmarked the outside walls.

The Rev. Sebastian J. Rossouw compared Mandela to the biblical figures Isaiah and John the Baptist as men who led in dark times, calling him “that moonlight in the dark night.”

God “sent us this man to show us the depths of the human heart, he sent us this man to show us that despite what was going on at the time, light could shine,” Roussouw said. He warned of the flaws of modern life in South Africa, preaching against the “corruption and crime” that plague the country.

Mandela’s ex-wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, joined one of his grandsons, Mandla Mandela, and South African President Jacob Zuma in a prayer service in Johannesburg.

Inside a church behind Mandela’s property in the eastern village of Qunu, where he will be buried, about 50 people held a raucous, celebratory service. A robed man banged on a drum. Clapping men huddled as women danced on the concrete floor.

The Rev. Joshua Mzingelwa, the leader of Morians Episcopal Apostolic Church, delivered a loud, throaty sermon.

“There is still hope in the hardship that you are facing daily,” Mzingelwa told the congregation.

In an affluent, predominantly white suburb of the capital, Pretoria, parishioners prayed for Mandela at what was once a worship center for pro-apartheid government and business leaders.

A picture of Mandela was beamed onto the wall above the pulpit, highlighting the enormous changes in South Africa, which elected Mandela as its first black president in an all-race vote in 1994.

The Rev. Niekie Lamprecht, pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church of Pretoria East, said Mandela was the driving force behind changes of attitude in the congregation’s overwhelmingly white parishioners.

“He said, ‘Let’s forgive,’ and he forgave. That created a space for people to feel safe … at a time when the expectation was that there was going to be a war,” Lamprecht said.

Foreign dignitaries began arriving Sunday, and the government said more than 50 heads of state were expected. Those attending include U.S. President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Brazilian leader Dilma Rousseff and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

After the stadium memorial on Tuesday, Mandela’s body will lie in state at the Union Buildings, the seat of government in Pretoria, from Wednesday to Friday, followed by the burial in Qunu.

A LEGEND TILL THE END

A sombre South African President Jacob Zuma announced Mandela’s death in a television address.
“Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father. Although we knew that this day would come, nothing can diminish our sense of a profound and enduring loss,” Zuma said.
“His tireless struggle for freedom earned him the respect of the world. His humility, his compassion and his humanity earned him their love.”
Zuma said he has ordered all flags in South Africa to be lowered to half-mast, where they will remain until after what will be a state funeral.
In an address to reporters at the UN, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon offered his condolences to Mandela’s family, and recalled being overwhelmed by Mandela’s “selflessness and his deep sense of shared purpose” when they met in 2009.
“Let us continue each day to be inspired by Nelson Mandela’s lifelong example to keep working toward a better and more just world,” he said.
At the White House, U.S. President Barack Obama said he “cannot fully imagine” his life without the example set by Mandela.
“He achieved more than could be expected of any man,” Obama said. “Today he’s gone home. We’ve lost one of the most influential, courageous and profoundly good human beings that any of us will share time with on this earth. He no longer belongs to us. He belongs to the ages.”
In a written statement, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said “the world has lost one of its greatest moral leaders and statesmen.”
“Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy for his country, and the world, is the example he set through his own ‘long walk to freedom,’” Harper said. “With grace and humility, he modelled how peoples can transform their own times and in doing so, their own lives.”
British Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted that “a great light has gone out in the world. Nelson Mandela was a hero of our time.”
Cameron said the flag at 10 Downing Street will be lowered to half-mast.
Mandela, who inherited a country on the verge of civil war and torn apart by racial violence, will forever be remembered for bringing hope and reconciliation to South Africa. Controversial for much of his life, he ultimately became a beacon of optimism for people both at home and around the world.
The iconic leader — known for his charismatic personality, soft-yet-stirring speeches and charitable work post-politics — spent 27 years behind bars for opposing white rule in his country before becoming South Africa’s first black president in 1994.
Mandela became increasingly frail in recent years and was hospitalized several times in the past few months, receiving treatment for pneumonia, an ongoing lung infection and gallstones.
Though he served only five years in office, Mandela is recognized the world over, often seen as someone with great dignity and moral authority.
While he sought a quiet family life in retirement, he continued to meet with notable dignitaries and celebrities, weigh in on international affairs and conflicts, and champion causes in which he believed, including poverty and HIV/AIDS.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation released a statement Thursday to say that “No words can adequately describe this enormous loss to our nation and to the world.
“We give thanks for his life, his leadership, his devotion to humanity and humanitarian causes. We salute our friend, colleague and comrade and thank him for his sacrifices for our freedom.”
At age 85 and amid failing health, he was forced to announce he was “retiring from retirement,” in 2004, retreating from the spotlight as much as possible. His last major public appearance was in 2010, when South Africa hosted the World Cup of Soccer. He was greeted by thunderous applause but made no speech.
Known for his unyielding optimism, Mandela leaves behind a lasting legacy — with countless parks, schools and squares named in his honour.
His birthday is a public holiday in South Africa, where Mandela is affectionately known by his clan name, Madiba.
Mandela’s life behind bars, in power
Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, when South Africa was still largely under colonial rule, and became a political force when he was just a young man. He was expelled from the University of Fort Hare in 1940 for organizing a student strike, and joined the African National Congress two years later.
After years of activism, and after founding South Africa’s first black law partnership, Mandela helped found Umkhonto we Sizwe, the ANC’s guerilla wing, a move he says he made only after “a sober assessment of the political situation that had arisen after years of tyranny, exploitation and oppression of my people by whites.”
On June 12, 1964, Mandela was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of trying to overthrow South Africa’s apartheid government.
He served 27 years of hard labour, mostly at Robben Island, looking forward to his only perk — a 30-minute session with a visitor once a year.
But while in jail, Mandela unified his fellow prisoners, foreshadowing the leadership skills he would use when he became the country’s first fully-representative democratically elected president.
His release on Feb. 11, 1990 was brought about in part by heavy economic sanctions imposed on South Africa by dozens of countries, including Canada.
As the world watched on television, Mandela walked confidently toward the prison gates, his then-wife Winnie at his side. A huge throng of reporters and thousands of supporters wait to greet him, a scene he later described as “a happy, if slightly disorienting chaos.”
His next gesture would forever symbolize his struggle.
“I raised my right fist and there was a roar,” Mandela recalled.
In 1993, Mandela and South African President F.W. de Klerk were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their work to end apartheid. Mandela was inaugurated as president the following year.
Mandela is survived by his wife, Graca Machel, and his three surviving children.

NELSON ROLIHLAHLA MANDELA DEAD @ 95

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (Xhosa pronunciation: [xoˈliːɬaɬa manˈdeːla]) (18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary and politician who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the first black South African to hold the office, and the first elected in a fully representative, multiracial election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation. Politically an African nationalist and democratic socialist, he served as the President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997. Internationally, Mandela was the Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999.

A Xhosa born to the Thembu royal family, Mandela attended the Fort Hare University and the University of Witwatersrand, where he studied law. Living in Johannesburg, he became involved in anti-colonial politics, joining the ANC and becoming a founding member of its Youth League. After the Afrikaner nationalists of the National Party came to power in 1948 and began implementing the policy of apartheid, he rose to prominence in the ANC’s 1952 Defiance Campaign, was elected President of the Transvaal ANC Branch and oversaw the 1955 Congress of the People. Working as a lawyer, he was repeatedly arrested for seditious activities and, with the ANC leadership, was prosecuted in the Treason Trial from 1956 to 1961 but was found not guilty. Although initially committed to non-violent protest, in association with the South African Communist Party he co-founded the militant Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) in 1961, leading a bombing campaign against government targets. In 1962 he was arrested, convicted of sabotage and conspiracy to overthrow the government, and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Rivonia Trial.

Mandela served 27 years in prison, first on Robben Island, and later in Pollsmoor Prison and Victor Verster Prison. An international campaign lobbied for his release, which was granted in 1990 amid escalating civil strife. Becoming ANC President, Mandela published his autobiography and led negotiations with President F.W. de Klerk to abolish apartheid and establish multiracial elections in 1994, in which he led the ANC to victory. He was elected President and formed a Government of National Unity in an attempt to defuse ethnic tensions. As President, he promulgated a new constitution and initiated the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate past human rights abuses. Continuing the former government’s liberal economic policy, his administration introduced measures to encourage land reform, combat poverty, and expand healthcare services. Internationally, he acted as mediator between Libya and the United Kingdom in the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing trial, and oversaw military intervention in Lesotho. He declined to run for a second term, and was succeeded by his deputy, Thabo Mbeki. Mandela subsequently became an elder statesman, focusing on charitable work in combating poverty and HIV/AIDS through the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Mandela was a controversial figure for much of his life. Right-wing critics denounced him as a terrorist and communist sympathiser. He nevertheless gained international acclaim for his anti-colonial and anti-apartheid stance, having received more than 250 honours, including the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize, the US Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Soviet Order of Lenin. He is held in deep respect within South Africa, where he is often referred to by his Xhosa clan name, Madiba, or as Tata (“Father”); he is often described as “the father of the nation”. Mandela died following a long illness on 5 December 2013 at his home in Johannesburg.

SLEEP WELL PAUL WALKER

Actor Paul Walker, who shot to fame as star of the high-octane street racing franchise “Fast & Furious,” died Saturday in a car crash in Southern California. He was 40.Walker’s publicist Ame van Iden confirmed his death, but said she could not elaborate beyond statements posted on Walker’s official Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Walker was a passenger in a friend’s 2005 Porches Carrera GT and both were attending a charity event for his organization, Reach Out Worldwide, in the community of Valencia in Santa Clarita, about 30 miles north of Hollywood.

The website for the charity said the Saturday event was intended to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Speed was a factor in the crash, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said.

The wreck took place about 3:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. ET), about 300 yards from the office park where the event was held. The speed limit there is 45 mph.

Up and down the road near the crash site were burned rubber and doughnut marks as though someone smoked their tires in figure 8 patterns.

“I don’t know if the marks in the road are related to the crash,” said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Allen.

Deputies arrived at the scene to find a vehicle on fire, he said

Once fire crews put the flames out, they found two occupants, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. What could all this mean? Was Paul walker a victim of a car accident? Or was he actually murdered?

DAILY TIPS

How to take care of your Oily Hair
Oily hair is a common complaint among teenagers. Because of excess sebum production our hair is oily. This leaves the hair greasy and unattractive.
For oily hair do not use conditioners use only shampoos and make sure while choosing a shampoos, it must not contain conditioner in it. Such kind of shampoo is available easily in the market and is cheap compared to shampoos with conditioners.
If you think that you need a conditioner, and then use a conditioner which is very mild. Apply the conditioner only at the tips and in the middle do not apply at the roots and scalp and take care that you rinse it completely. Do not select products, which have silicone, oils, or lanolin.
Massaging the hair is essential for oily hair. Instead of applying lotions or oils, you can use a toning lotion (which removes dead cells) to massage oily hair with regular brushing. This helps hair growth. A regular massage habit is necessary. Avoid applying oil to the hair as possible.
You can also try the following remedies:
1. Mix 4 tablespoons of lemon juice with 1 cup water and apply to your hair for 15 min and rinse with warm water.
2. Mix 1/4 cup of cider vinegar with a basin of water and apply to your hair for 15 min and rinse with warm water.
3. Try to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and eat fresh fruits and vegetables to keep your hydrated.

GIRL DISCOVERS ANTS IN HER PRIVATE PART AFTER SEX WITH HER “SCAM” BOYFRIEND

This is the story of a girl ‘Vera’ 21 years old who was almost a victim of rituals by her boyfriend ‘Jide’ he was a scammer and they dated for 3 months. Vera & jide used to engage in sexual intercourse constantly but not without condoms, but on this fateful day Jide asked Vera for sex without them using a condom, Vera asked ‘why? And he got angry so she agreed and just as she was about engaging in the sex, she remembered she had a female condom, and immediately excused herself to go to the toilet to put it on without his consent. They both had sex and immediately jide jumped up & said he had some errands to run for his father. He dressed up quickly & dropped some money on the bed & left. Vera went straight into the toilet to clean up, when Vera removed the female condoms she discovered big black ants and worms in the condoms, all those worms & ants were meant to enter inside her body through her private part & kill her slowly as part of the money ritual process. Vera fortunately turned out to be one of those girls who escaped the ordeal of this ritualists. This was such a miracle that Vera had to give thanks giving & testimonies in her church, despite the fact that what she did (fornication) was a sin in the sight of the Lord! This didn’t stop her from sharing her testimonies. Girls all over the. World please be alarmed & careful. Of who you give your body too.

RUMORS AND IT’S EFFECTS

Today i am going to take my time to write about my experience, i’ve come to realize that one of the major things which most people tend to spend their precious time doing is spreading false and unnecessary rumors, so i decided to do my research and from my findings i get to understand that most people all over the world, would do anything for fame (no offense) including spreading false stories just so they could be heard, so now i’m saying i’ve you ever thought of how well you can use your time? Well you might not see what you doing as harmful to not just the society but also yourself but trust me you are wasting and harming not just the society but also you as a person. so instead of playing away your precious time let’s make wise use of it. remember the saying Time is Money.
